Weathered Steel House
Design for a new 3-bedroom home adjoining the end of an existing semi-detached pair.
Proposed layout responds to the established urban form and environmental conditions - optimising a sustainable development opportunity.
The proposal responds to the primary form of the existing semi-detached pair, extending it westwards though stepping back slightly from the primary elevation and stepping the roof down to below the existing verge to generate a subservient character, before reducing scale further with a hipped roof end.
The appearance is modern yet simple, modest and sympathetic to surroundings. The front elevation mimics the aperture proportions of the existing semi-detached pair, helping to anchor the proposal in the site and wider surroundings. The west and south elevations incorporate larger apertures, though remain modest and in keeping with surroundings.
Weathered steel provides a rich, warm red/brown that mimics the roof colour nearby properties. This, combined with white brick and white metal cladding, is reflective of the general character of the area whilst modern in its own appearance.
