Design for a rear bathroom / living extension and front bedroom / porch extension.
The brief primarily considers the young families relationship with their garden; optimised internal sunlight; and multifunctional, social spaces for daytime living - as well as additional bedroom and storage space; an improved bathroom; and an improved front entrance.
An existing conservatory is replaced with a full width rear extension at ground floor with a large window and low cill, bringing the garden into a dining / living space full of light and life.
Two storey elements are detailed to match the existing house materially, but with a modern sensibility in aperture proportions and concrete lintels - generating a modestly playful appearance and balancing between the original house and the new ground floor extension.
This element is contrastingly modern in character with large scale apertures; clad in a white / cream brick; and crowned with a timber shade and canopy which concludes an elegant winged roof form - topped with sedum planting and providing additional height to the space internally. A generously sized rooflight adds to the sense of spaciousness and ensures high levels of natural light.
